 Unchanging yet dynamic, the Scriptures call me to listen with my mind, heart, and soul to what they are saying today.

Today I will open my mind to hear the call of God’s word.

Then [Jesus] opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. Luke 24:45

    Hey Mary,
    To hear the “call” of God’s Word. Could you explain that just a little further?

    I always ask Him to open my heart and mind to hear what His word is speaking to me, but never the “call” of it. Would really be interested to know exactly what is meant by that. How your post always make me think!

      “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1

      “And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14

      Jesus, the Word made flesh, calls us to follow him, follow his way of love, compassion, forgiveness, mercy, reconciliation, generosity, and healing. Jesus, the Word made flesh, calls us to feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, visit the imprisoned, welcome the stranger… (Matthew 25:34-37)

      When we open our ears and hearts and minds to hear the call of Jesus, we are shown a new way of being in the world – and can be intentional about practicing that new way of being day by day.

    You are such an awesome child of God, Mary. The things I learn from you, well, there are no words for it truly. You always amaze me with your spiritual wisdom, which I pray for daily. Hmmm…, maybe you are the way the Holy Spirit is giving it to me. In fact I think you are. If you do not mind my asking, how did you get to this point in your life.

    I believe that you work if I am not mistaken. How much time a day do you spend in prayer and in God’s word, where it has become such a part of your spiritual being. I am truly fascinated by everything you write. I am not trying to be intrusive, it just amazes me the point you are at with the knowledge you have of God and His Word. I cannot wait to read your post on Sunday!

    I have struggled so to get there, and a part of me has, but it is such a struggle for me. I appreciate you so much. Love and God Bless, SR

      Hi, SR –
      I don’t spend a lot of time on formal prayer practices. I do enjoy “Give Us This Day” – a resource from Liturgical Publications that includes morning and evening prayer.

      I listen to the gospel in Spanish going to and from work. It improves my shaky Spanish and helps me hear the Word in new ways.

      Mostly I try to be intentional in practicing what Jesus taught: love of God, neighbor, and self. Patience, kindness, forbearance, acceptance, teachability, compassion, forgiveness.

      Phew. It’s a busy day with all that to practice.
