Francis E. McSweeny (1928-2015)

The Francis E. McSweeny Scholarship has been established in honor of my father, Frank McSweeny.

The scholarship benefits graduating seniors of Mount Greylock Regional High School in Williamstown, Massachusetts.

Frank graduated from the University of San Francisco
and earned a master’s degree from Boston College. A gifted math teacher, he served for many years as the coordinator of the mathematics department at Mount Greylock, where he collaborated with Berkshire Community College to introduce computer science into the school curriculum as early as 1968. He later won a grant from the GTE Foundation for developing and implementing a curriculum that integrated the study of calculus, physics, and computer programming.

A talented musician, Frank also directed a number of the school’s musicals. He was one of the first inductees into the Mount Greylock “Faculty Hall of Fame.”
