Today I am practicing trustworthiness in very small matters. I said my morning prayers, fed the cats, made the bed, ate breakfast, cleaned the cat boxes, and hung the laundry on the line. I washed the dishes, emptied the garbage, took a walk, wrote in my journal, and wrote a birthday note to my aunt, who turns eighty-seven this week.
These simple activities—along with others—will add up to be my day. They don’t seem to be worth very much, but this morning I asked God to show me what to do and how to do it. This seems to be what God is showing me: to take responsibility for this tiny corner of the world that is mine—and to do it with love.
“The person who is trustworthy in very small matters is also trustworthy in great ones; and the person who is dishonest in very small matters is also dishonest in great ones.”
Luke 16:10

Oh Mary, thank you so much for this post! To tell you the truth I had a hard time piecing for myself what Jesus was trying to say to me in today’s readings. “My corner of the world” Mary! That is it! If we will just take care of that “tiny corner” He has given to and entrusted us with.
When we prove to Him we are so more than willing to do so with His guidance and help, then the Lord can trust us!!!!!
Mary, my thoughts and heart are always on 20 different things I truly want to be doing but do not have the time nor the physical ability to do so anymore. I come away feeling like such a failure because of it, by the end of the day. Age and hard physical work all of my life are truly catching up with me, and has slowed me down.
What freedom this post has given me as it has allowed me to walk away from that guilt. It is kind of like when Mother Teresa said, “Find your own Calcutta.”
God does not intend for us to save the world, does He Mary? He intends for us to take care of our “tiny corner of it.” Not only others, but also what He has given to us to sustain us in life. To do it with as much love as I can. (Am I getting it?)
