Without labels

[Jesus] said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Matthew 16:15

I can’t control God with labels. All I can do is rest in the presence of the Divine and be filled with the gifts chosen for me.

All I can do is model myself—to the best of my ability—on Jesus, Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace, Compassion of God, Father of Mercies, God of All Comfort.

All I can do is let God be God and turn my will and my life over to God’s tender care and loving direction.

    Dear Mary McSweeny,
Please forgive me for being forward, but words themselves are difficult to see emotion, intent or sarcasm. I found this posting to be very funny, but if you did not mean it to be ironic I apologize.

“I can’t control God with labels.” is awesome, then to provide a litany of labels for God is pure comedy. I laughed out loud at the pure irony of the litany of labels we give to God, all the while knowing we cannot control God with labels. Thank you for this. Keep up the good work.

    God bless,
