Today I have a short list of people I want to pray for, people who have hurt me in some way and against whom I am holding a grudge. Resentment is a form of bondage and I wish to live in freedom.
Lord, teach me to forgive others as you forgive me for being less than perfect. Help me to see all members of the human family with your eyes. Show me your way of mercy.
But you have mercy on all, because you can do all things;
and you overlook people’s sins that they may repent.
For you love all things that are
and loathe nothing that you have made;
for what you hated, you would not have fashioned.
Wisdom (11:23-24)
I love the idea of making a “list” of those who have hurt me and for those I am holding a “grudge” against. Then praying for them.
You know Mary, I think at times we do not even realize we are “holding a grudge” against someone. At least for me at times, that is true.
Then something will happen which brings up the “hurt and pain” within myself, and usually anger is the result of that. Then I get over the anger and go on. In doing so I am really not making a conscience effort to pray and forgive them. So the grudge remains, until the next time the pain and hurt emerges itself.
I think once a week making a list is a wonderful suggestion and one I plan on using, so I can move past the hurt, pain, and anger. Thank you and God Bless, SR
