Listen to Him

Jesus took Peter, John, and James and went up the mountain to pray. While he was praying his face changed in appearance and his clothing became dazzling white. Luke 9:28b-29

Prayer opens our hearts and minds to the presence of God. In trust and vulnerability, we allow ourselves to receive healing of all the trauma and wounds that have become stumbling blocks on our journey to wholeness. God’s grace transforms us inwardly and outwardly into humble, faithful servants of God’s love in the world.

Today I will consciously seek God’s presence through prayer and meditation. I will ask God, “How can I help and serve you today?” I will listen for God’s response and follow through to the best of my ability.

Transfigured

White as light

[Jesus] was transfigured before them; his face shone like the sun and his clothes became white as light. Matthew 17:2

Those moments of transfiguring awe
when you see a rainbow in a dewdrop,
the translucent wing of a seagull in flight,
when you hear the silence
and know you are in the presence of God.

Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good that we are here.” Luke 9:33b

Let me be aware of the loud, grace-filled silence of the Lord’s presence in every moment, every breath.

How good it is to be here.

 

 

 

 

God’s beloved

I wonder, if I listened very hard, if I would hear a holy voice say I am God’s beloved child.

I wonder how it would change me to live with the knowledge that I am God’s beloved child, that we are all God’s beloved children, that God is pleased and delighted by our presence.

From the cloud came a voice that said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” When the disciples heard this, they fell prostrate and were very much afraid. But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Rise, and do not be afraid.” Matthew 17:5b-8

When I listen to the Word of God, what do I hear?
  Peace.
  Do not be afraid.
  Love God and your neighbor and yourself.
  Welcome strangers.
  Feed the hungry.
  Shelter the homeless.
  Do not worry about tomorrow.
  Forgive your enemies.

Today I will listen to the Lord and be transfigured into a brighter image of God’s love and goodness, kindness and compassion.

Prayer transforms, bedazzles, transfigures, inspires, transfixes, awes. May I climb the mountain of prayer today in the company of Jesus and listen to what he has to say.
